MapMyIndia Maples has expanded the capabilities of its Maples app by introducing multimodal public transport route information, allowing users to access metro, rail and bus routes directly on the platform.

With this update, users can view public transportation routes, stations, stops, and interchange options to plan trips that connect different modes of transportation. According to the exchange filing, the feature integrates public transportation information with the app’s existing navigation tools, including turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic updates, safety alerts, and intelligent routing.

Commenting on the development, Rakesh Verma, Co-Founder, Chairman and Managing Director, MapMyIndia, Maples, said, “The launch of multimodal public transport routes on the Maples app is a direct result of listening to our users. We want the Maples app to be more inclusive and accessible to everyone
citizen. As a completely indigenous platform built in India for India, Maples is committed to supporting sustainable urban mobility by integrating public transport into everyday navigation.

The public transport routing feature is currently available for select cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Indore, Patna, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Jaipur, Kochi and Bhopal. It is live on iOS and web platforms with plans for an Android rollout.

According to the company, the aim of adding public transport routes is to bring private and public transport options on a single indigenous map and navigation app. Maples currently has over 40 million users.

MapMyIndia Maples said its mapping and location technology is in line with government guidelines on issues such as international border delineation and handling of sensitive locations. The company noted that its government business has grown in recent years and currently accounts for about 20% of its gross revenues.
