Boeing grapples with high-profile production issues, safety incidents (representative)

The Texas Attorney General’s Office said on Thursday it has launched an investigation into Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems over “recurring problems” with some parts it supplies to the U.S. aerospace giant.
Spirit AeroSystems makes fuselages and other parts for large aircraft, including Boeing 737 jets.
Boeing suffered a near-catastrophic accident in January when a fuselage panel on an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 exploded mid-flight.
Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office said in a statement that some 737 models had “obvious manufacturing defects” that resulted in “numerous concerning or dangerous incidents.”
Spirit AeroSystems was asked to provide “documents related to manufacturing defects in its products” as part of the investigation, which will also examine the company’s organization and management.
Just days before announcing the investigation, Boeing said some of its top executives would leave the company, including Chief Executive Dave Calhoun, who will leave the company at the end of the year.
“If any company fails to adhere to the standards required by law, I will hold them accountable and will do everything in my power to ensure manufacturers take passenger safety seriously,” Paxton said in a statement.
Boeing has been grappling with high-profile production issues and safety incidents involving its planes for more than a year.
