Manipur violence
Manipur has been burning in the flames of violence for the past year. Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the United States and Thailand has called for a joint march to protest against the abduction of two teenagers in the state, which has seriously affected normal life in five districts of the Imphal Valley. Shops and other establishments remained closed as protesters blocked roads in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kachin and Thubal districts.
Protesters burn tires in the streets
According to police, a large number of women also participated in the protest and blocked NH 102 at Mela Ground in Thoubal, Wangjing, Yaripok and Khangbok. During this period, women demonstrated on the roads and raised slogans, while youths burned tires on the roads to block vehicular traffic. The JAC coordinator said the protests would continue until the two kidnapped youths were released.

In fact, three young men were abducted from Kangpokpi in Thoubal district last week. The three youths were abducted by armed Kuki militants on Saturday afternoon as they were heading to New Kisel Manbi in Imphal West district to take the recruitment examination, a police officer said. While the Army rescued one youth, Ningombam Johnson Singh, during a search operation on Sunday, two other youths – Oinam Thoithoi Singh ) and Thokchom Thoithoiba Singh remain in the custody of the militants.

Congress raises law and order issues
The state unit of Congress has taken aim at state governments over the issue. State Congress president K Meghchandra said the abduction of the teenagers showed the failure of law and order in the state. He said that in a recent joint meeting with state Chief Minister Biren Singh and MLAs, he asked the CM to implement the constitutional provisions and laws of the state. Talking to reporters, the Congress president said he had also asked the chief minister to seek help from Home Minister Amit Shah to save the two youths.
