Officials said Imphal, October 6 (IANS) flight operations were temporarily suspended at the International Airport in Imphal, Manipur on Monday afternoon.
A senior official of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) said an Indigo flight from Agartla to Imphal saw a drone on its last approach path from the city, which was at a height between 3,600 and 4,000 feet.
“In view of the report, the flight operations at the Imphal International Airport were temporarily suspended as a precautionary security measure. The general operation was resumed soon after this incident, which was immediately informed to the Manipur police and received necessary security approval from the Manipur Police,” the official said.
The AAI official said the public is strictly advised not to operate drones around the airport including Imphal City (East and West), Nambol and Bishanupur areas.
He said that unauthorized drone operations pose a serious risk for aircraft safety, causing temporary closure of the airport, and passengers may cause significant inconvenience.
The AAI official warned that any violation of the drone operation rules would invite strict legal action as per the applicable laws.
He said that it is our top priority to ensure safety and safety of passengers and aircraft operations.
Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal (Manipur), located 6 km from the capital city (Imphal), operated flights connecting Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Augartla and other cities of the country.
Superintendent of Police of Imphal West District Shivkanta Singh, while urging people not to blow drones in the areas adjacent to the airport, said, “If someone is found flying drones between Sanjantong and Quakethel, please inform the police immediately so that it can be brought down. It is affecting the flight movement.”
He warned that violation of drone rules would invite strict legal action under the law. Last year, Assam Rifles deployed an anti-drain system in the fringe areas of the Imphal Valley in Manipur to retreat any “wicked drone”.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which has been posted in a large number of ethnic violence in Manipur, has also tested an anti-drain system and “has been given the force deployed in the state”.
