Imphal, 30 September (IANS) Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, and a host of political leaders on Tuesday paid rich tribute to the Janata Net Hizam Iravat on his 129th birth anniversary.
A state ceremony was held on Tuesday at Iravat Square, Thangmiband of Imphal West District. A statement by Raj Bhavan stated that the public leaders Hizam Iravat (Erbot) (1896–1951) were widely distinguished as Lamanba, a prominent social reformer, political leader and freedom fighter of Manipur.
He caused the cause of poor, farmers and workers for equality and social justice throughout his life. The statement said that his tireless efforts in promoting their revolutionary enthusiasm for promoting education, progress and prosperity of the state remain a permanent legacy.
The Governor, on this occasion, paid floral tributes in the statue of Janata Net Hizam Iravat. Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Congress Lok Sabha member Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency along with Angomcha Bimol Akojam, along with leaders of various political parties, MLAs and other dignitaries, pay his heartfelt respect to the leader.
Former CM Singh said in a post on his X handle, “The public leader Hijem Irawat was honored to join the people of Manipur, which was a moment to reflect the permanent heritage of one of our courageous and progressive leaders.”
“The struggle he did not only was of his time; it is a constant call to take action for all of us. Let us take inspiration from his point of view to create a Manipur which is inclined, justified and united with purpose. Hijam Iravat’s life reminds us that the transformational change is possible when a person is firm,” the lion.
Manipur Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Ghar) N. Ashok Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary (Tribal Affairs and Hills), Commissioner, Senior Officers, and other prestigious guests also attended the observation and participated in paying tribute to the great leader on their birth anniversary.
The 129th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hizam Ibot was also seen separately on Tuesday in Imphal organized by the Congress and other opposition parties on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering, Congress President of Manipur State Keisham Meghchandra Singh highlighted the life, struggle and permanent relevance of Ibot’s ideas in contemporary Manipur.
The Congress leader recalled the battle of Erbot against feudalism, caste and ethnic discrimination, and exploitation of the poor, which emphasizes equality and continuous need for social justice. He mentioned the work of freedom fighters in gathering equalities with the current economic difficulties faced by small traders and laborers, farmers, farmers and workers for fair wages and land reforms.
Singh, an MLA, also underlines the vision of unity beyond the importance of inspiring the youth through caste, class and ethnic lines, their democratic spirit, and the importance of inspiring the youth.
