Officials said Imphal, September 21 (IANS) United Central and State Police Forces on Sunday intensified their search operations to make the armed group Nab, who killed two Assam Rifle personnel and injured five others in Bishanupur district of Manipur.
A police officer said that security forces in Assam Rifle and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) continued their mass search operations in Bishanupur and were adjacent to Thubal, Non and Imphal West districts to nab criminals.
He said that in the ongoing search operation, two suspects were detained from Shantipur and Isok areas of Bishanupur district and further verification about them.
A Maruti van used in ambush was recovered from Mutum Yangbi in the same Bishanupur district.
The vehicle was found about 12 km from the scene.
According to preliminary investigation, many owners of the vehicle have been identified and efforts are still underway to detect more details.
The official said that the investigation is in full swing.
Meanwhile, another official said on Sunday that after a heinous attack on Assam rifles on Friday, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla reviewed the safety situation prevalent in a meeting held at Raj Bhawan on Saturday night.
Manipur Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goyal, Chief Security Advisor Kuldiap Singh, Chief Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari of Eastern Command of Army, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Ghar) N. Ashok Kumar, General Officer-Komanding-in-Chief of 3 Corps Lt Gen Abijit S Pendahkar attended the Senior Esseer meeting.
The official said during the meeting, there was a detailed discussion on the sick incident in which two soldiers of Assam Rifles maintained supreme sacrifice and five others maintained bullet injuries.
According to the official, the discussion in the meeting emphasized the need for coordinated action between all security agencies to ensure the rapid identity of criminals.
It was also resolved that the security system should be further strengthened in weak and sensitive areas, including highways, transit routes and border areas, he said.
In future, emphasis was laid on patrol, acute intelligence gathering and strong inter-agency coordination to prevent such incidents.
The Governor underlined that law and order in both the valley and hilly districts should be maintained with perseverance and vigilance to ensure peace and public security.
Defense spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amit Shukla had said that on Saturday evening, at a deepest walking ceremony organized under the aegis of Inspector General of Inspector General of the Headquarters, Assam Rifles (South), a heartfelt tribute was paid to Naib-Sabdar Shyam Gurung (59) and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kaship (36).
Gurung is from East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, while Kashyap is a resident of Bastar district of Chhattisgarh.
A group of unidentified armed cadres attacked a vehicle of a paramilitary force with Imphal -Dimapur National Highway (NH -2) in the Nambol Sabal Likai area of Bishanupur district on Friday evening when two Assam Rifles personnel were killed and five others injured.
A defense spokesperson had said that a column of Assam rifles soldiers were going from its Patoi company to the operating base of the Nambol company, when the highway in the autocratic region of Manipur was ambushed by unknown terrorists on the highway.
The spokesperson said that five injured Assam Rifle personnel were now subject to medical treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Imphal, the spokesperson said they are currently stable.
The Armed Forces (Special Power) Act, 1958, (AFSPA) was first removed from the Nambol Sabal Likai region.
So far, no terrorist group or organization has claimed responsibility for the attack, the first major violent incident after implementing the President’s rule in Manipur on 13 February this year.
In regular search operations, security forces have arrested three terrorists belonging to separate banned organizations and a weapon dealer from a separate district.
Three terrorists belonging to the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangalipak (Prepak) and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were arrested from the Imphal East and Bishanupur districts and the arms dealer was poured from the Imphal West District.
According to the police, the three terrorists, employees, shops, local traders, schools and forced recovery activities from schools in the Tonglobe region were involved in recovery activities.
From their possession, two mobile handsets with SIM cards were seized.
