Mani Shankar Iyer claimed the government to ‘claim to simplify the GST structure’, ‘

New Delhi, 23 September (IANS) has erupted on a fresh political line goods and service tax (GST) reforms, senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Iyer has accused the central government of ignoring the major reform recommendations and hurting small traders, while BJP leaders have hit back, GST has claimed that GST has claimed that GST has made comprehensive relief and savings.

Speaking seriously about the government’s recent claims to simplify the GST structure, Iyer said: “Today, Modi ji and his followers are saying that we have simplified GST. If they had listened to us, they could have done this 10 years ago. They are giving a gift to Dussehra, that the roof of 18 percent has been placed.

He further urged the government to bring tobacco, electricity and liquor under GST within five years.

“You can apply whatever you want within GST, but the states should not have inequality, some are being taxed at 10 percent, others are at 50 percent. It is completely wrong,” Iyer said.

Responding to criticism, Union Minister Giriraj Singh defended GST rule and questioned the Congress’s record during his time in power.

“When the Congress was in power, the income tax exemption limit was Rs 3 lakh. Modi ji increased it up to Rs 12 lakh. You cannot like it, but the youth, the elderly, farmers and every household are now benefiting from every house. GST is low in each food,” he said.

Referring to the festive season, Singh said: “With the low GST rates, festivals like Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath will be even more economical. Congress leaders should only vow to buy the goods of ‘Made in India’.”

BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain also considers Congress allegations to be baseless.

“There have been major changes in GST. People are saving significantly. From food to vehicles, everything is cheap – cycle, motorcycle, TV, fridge. He said.

The battle of words comes when the government forwards recent updates to simplify the GST structure, which aims to make compliance easier and is more uniform. While the Congress claims that these steps are very low, it is too late, the BJP insisted that the Narendra Modi government has provided meaningful economic relief to all sections of the society.
