Manchester: Man dies ‘trying to stop car being stolen’, two arrested

Two men have been arrested after a man was hit and killed by a Land Rover in Beswick, Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police said on Sunday night it is believed the 57-year-old victim had been trying to prevent his car from being stolen.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and a 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Both men were detained and interviewed by detectives.

Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Smith, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, appealed to the public for information, saying: “At the heart of this investigation is a grieving family and we will do everything we can to find answers for them.

“Our investigation is proceeding at a rapid pace and my team of detectives will continue to work tirelessly to capture the circumstances leading up to this incident.”
