A 27-year-old man was beheaded after his car collided with another car in west Delhi’s Kirti Nagar area and was thrown into the air before landing on the other side of the road, police said on Thursday.

CCTV cameras captured the entire incident. The deceased was identified as Vansh Jolly, a resident of Mansarovar Garden area. Jolly worked as a cosmetics marketing agent and is survived by his mother.

Police said they received information around 5.49 pm on Wednesday that two cars collided and one of them hit the road divider at BCD Chowk in Kirti Nagar, killing one person on the spot.

The accident was so impactful that the car Jolly was driving, a Hyundai Elantra, was thrown over a barrier and turned into a turtle after hitting another four-wheeler on the opposite road, according to CCTV footage.

In the 30-second video, passers-by can be seen rushing to the scene shortly after the accident. Police said Jolly’s head was caught in the driver’s side window, crushed and dismembered from his body. Another mobile phone video that went viral on social media after the accident showed Jolly’s headless body lying in a pool of blood on the driver’s seat.

“The black Hyundai Elantra was neither speeding nor the one that was thrown into the air. But the car driven by the young man lost its balance and overturned.” said an eyewitness who did not want to be named.

The other car, a Toyota Etios, was driven by Rajesh Arora, who escaped uninjured but the vehicle suffered some damage, police said.

Arora runs an auto parts manufacturing plant. Another officer said the Etios was coming from the other lane when it was hit by the Elantra. The police have registered an FIR under Section 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) at Kirti Nagar police station.

“We have some videos of the incident. Forensic teams and other experts have gone to the scene. The matter is being investigated thoroughly to determine who is at fault,” an investigator said.

“We are trying to understand the sequence of events. We are also checking the CCTV footage,” the official said.
