Man put Pennsylvania governor’s mansion on fire, suspect arrested

Arun Jain, 14/04/2025

Washington, United States:

The US police said on Sunday they arrested a person for alleged arson and “terrorism” after the attack on the official residence of Democratic Heavyweight and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro.

The state police said Shapiro, who was widely seen as a potential 2028 presidential presidential contender, was inside with his family, when a separate part of the Georgian style mansion caught fire in Harisburg, Pennsylvania.

“While the fire was successfully extinguished, a part of the residence caused significant amount of damage to a significant amount of damage.” There were no casualties.

Shapiro said he and his sleeping family woke up by a police soldier who “locally at our door” and was evacuated from the building at around 2:00 pm (0600 GMT).

“Thank God that no one was injured and the fire was extinguished,” he said.

Talking to reporters outside the residence, a broken window was blackened from the fire seen behind it, Shapiro made a tremendous appeal to end political violence.

He said, “This kind of violence is becoming very common in our society, and I do not give a shame if it is coming from a particular side or another … it’s not right, and it has to be stopped,” he said.

Shapiro, who is the Jew, held a ceremony with family and friends at night to mark the first night of Passah’s holiday.

Keeping in mind the arson’s purpose, it was not yet known, Shapiro said that he would not be afraid to see his faith.

Police said they arrested a person on suspicion of attacking, in which he was named as 38 -year -old Kodi Balmer.

Officials said Balmer came to a fence and used the property, and he had “homemade fire” equipment “on his person.

State top police officers Christopher Paris and George Bivens said they set fire and spent several minutes on the police before setting the fire.

Top Republican officials reacted to the attack on Sunday afternoon, US Attorney General Palm Bondi said on the X that he was “deeply relieved that Governor Shapiro and his family were safe.”

Vice President JD Vance called the attack “really disgusting violence” and said he hoped that “whoever did it has been brought fast for justice.”

President Donald Trump, when returning to Washington riding in the Air Force, was asked about the attack on Sunday night, he said that he had heard about it.

51-year-old Shapiro Democrat was in the race to be a partner of Kamla Harris, who eventually failed in the US President’s dialect-a position that went to Minnesota’s Governor Tim Walz instead.
