Kolkata, October 8 (IANS) In a shocking incident, a man committed suicide by hanging himself after killing his wife and minor son in Beldanga in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. Police gave this information on Wednesday.
The bodies of the three dead persons, Sanjeet Halder (40), his wife Moushumi Halder (28), and their minor son Ryan Halder (7), were found by Sanjeet’s mother on Wednesday morning.
According to the statement given by the mother to the police, she first saw her son’s body hanging from the ceiling of her bedroom on Wednesday morning.
She got scared and started screaming. Neighbors reached the spot, broke the bedroom door and found the bodies of Moushumi Halder and Rayan Halder lying soaked in blood with their throats slit.
The local police station was immediately informed. Police have recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. Initial investigation has revealed that on Tuesday night, first Sanjeet murdered his wife and minor son by slitting their throats and then committed suicide by hanging himself.
Sanjeet’s mother told media persons that there was tension going on between her son and daughter-in-law for a long time due to some reason. He said, “At one point the tension became so severe that my son even left the house. However, later we all convinced him to come back. Perhaps, the tension became serious due to which my son had to take such a drastic step.”
Sanjeet’s sister Shibani Mandal told media persons that her brother took great care of his wife. Shibani said, “Whenever there were any internal differences between his wife and us, my brother would always take his wife’s side. So such a step on his part was really unimaginable.”
Neighbors said that Sanjeet was known in the area as a soft-spoken and well-behaved person. A neighbor said, “He mainly worked as a contract mason to earn his livelihood. As far as we know, he had no addictions. He was never seen quarreling with anyone. We heard that there was tension between him and his wife. But we never thought that a person like him could take such a drastic step.”
