Allegedly late at night burglary exist Texas Turned deadly – the homeowner now faces murder charges.

Joel Adrian Florez, 43, was arrested and charged with murder after he fatally shot an armed intruder at his Big Spring, Texas, home on Friday night, police said.

When police arrived, they found Flores and a 40-year-old woman standing outside the home. Flores told officers there was a gunshot victim inside, according to police. Big Spring Police Department.

The victim was identified as 36-year-old Phillip Samuel Lozano Jr. He was pronounced dead at the scene

According to investigators, Lozano was armed and forced his way into the home when Flores shot him. Police confirmed Lozano suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Flores was arrested and charged with murder on Saturday.

Authorities have not said whether Flores and Lozano knew each other. No further details about the incident were released.

Texas has a “stand your ground” law that states that a person can use force against another person when they have reason to believe that force is needed to protect themselves.

Under the castle doctrine, under certain circumstances, residents may use force, including deadly force, to defend themselves, their families, and property considered their “castle” from intruders or attackers without an obligation to retreat.

Flores remains in custody at the Howard County Detention Center.
