Man arrested in Ahmedabad to kill 24 -year -old youth

Gandhinagar, 23 September (IANS) Ahmedabad police on Tuesday, arrested a prominent suspect in the brutal murder of 24 -year -old Vaibhav Manwani, who was stabbed to death near Ambapur Canal in Adalj, Gandhinagar at the end of his birthday at the end of his birthday, officials said.

His girlfriend, Aastha Hariyani, who survived many stabbing wounds, remain under medical observation.

The accused Vipul, also known as Vimal or Neil Parmar, is named by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch.

The arrest comes after a two-day multi-agency manhunt, including Gandhinagar Local Crime Branch, Special Operations Group and anti-Ahmedabad terrorist squads.

Police said that the accused is considered a history-sheet from Ashok Mill area on Naroda Road.

Vaibhav, a resident of Ahmedabad, was attacked immediately after 1:30 pm on September 20, when he and Aastha parked their car near the canal bridge after celebrating with friends.

An attacker opened the back door of the car, threatened the couple for money and jewelery, and then repeatedly stabbed Vaibhav – at least 12 times on the head, chest and shoulders – when he protested.

The institution that tried to protect Vaibhav, was injured with his neck and hand cuts.

According to CCTV footage, the suspect was seen on a bike near the crime spot around 1 pm and left on 20 September at 2:30 pm.

Forensic teams later recovered biological samples and other evidence from the crime site.

A senior police officer said, “Technical surveillance and CCTV input helped us zero the accused. They were detected and taken into custody.”

It is under interrogation to determine whether other persons were also involved.

Police said the testimony of the institution, once he is declared fit to make a full statement, would be important in confirming the sequence of events.

Local people are demanding to patrol a strict night around different parts of the canal.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Gujarat has allegedly seen a steady decline in its crime rate in the last few years, especially for serious crimes such as murder, rape, kidnapping and robbery.

The Gujarat government said that for such major crimes, the crime rate in the state fell to 11.9 per 100,000 people in 2021, which is much lower than the national average (30.2).

Crimes against women have also seen a decline of about 27.10 per lakhs in 2019, in 2022 about 22.90 per lakh population.
