According to preliminary information, no one was injured.
The fire broke out at 12.30 pm in the huts located inside Navrang Compound on 60 Foota Road.
At least four fire engines and other firefighting vehicles reached the spot and began dousing operations, a civic official said.
“There is no news of anyone being injured,” he said.
Railway officials said that since the fire is very close to the railway tracks, local train services between Bandra and Mahim on the Harbor Line have been temporarily suspended.
The cause of the fire and the damage caused are not yet known.
A Western Railway spokesperson said, “Due to the incident of fire in the slums along the Up Harbor line on the east side between Mahim and Bandra around 12:15 pm, the power supply to the overhead equipment has been disconnected as a safety measure.”
Harbor Line train services have been regulated until the situation is under control.
“There is no risk to any passengers or trains as they have been regulated and are away from the site,” the spokesperson said.
