Bhopal/Katni, October 29 (IANS) Responding quickly to the murder of Bajrang Dal worker Nilesh Rajak in Madhya Pradesh’s Katni district, the police have arrested two main accused in the case.
Both the main accused in the murder case have been arrested after a police encounter.
In a video message posted by the state home department, Katni ASP Santosh Dehariya said, “Police have arrested both the accused in the Kaimor murder case from Kajarwara. During the arrest, the accused opened fire on the police, forcing the police to retaliate in self-defence. Both the accused were injured in the encounter.”
Due to the severity of his injuries he has been referred to Jabalpur for advanced medical treatment. Police are yet to reveal full details of the encounter, but sources say the accused attempted to flee or resist arrest, following which retaliatory action was taken. His arrest marks a significant development in the case, which has attracted political and public attention.
The incident, which took place on Sunday, has spread widespread concern across the region.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav directed Minister in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Uday Pratap Singh to meet the bereaved family and support the government.
Chief Minister Yadav wrote in a post on Twitter on Wednesday, “The death of a person in a dispute between two parties in Katni is extremely sad. I pay tribute to the departed soul and express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family. As soon as I got information about the incident, I directed the concerned police officers to take strict action. The police have taken strict action against one of the accused and arrested him.”
The Chief Minister further wrote, “I have directed Minister in-charge Shri Rao Uday Pratap Singh to go to Katni to meet the bereaved family and express his condolences. There will be no compromise with law and order in the state. Anyone who challenges law and order will definitely have to face the consequences of his actions.”
