Pune, Oct 29 (IANS) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced that the state government will launch the Maharashtra State Manufacturing Mission on the lines of the Centre’s National Manufacturing Mission.
He also announced that a world class ‘Global Frontier Technology Institute’ would be set up in the state. He was speaking at ‘The Road to India AI Impact Summit 2026’ conference organized by NITI Aayog on the topic ‘Reimagining Manufacturing: India’s roadmap to global leadership in advanced manufacturing’.
Fadnavis further said that Maharashtra will lead the country in the field of advanced manufacturing, for which a state manufacturing mission will be launched.
The state has formulated a developed Maharashtra 2047 vision and transformation in the manufacturing sector is also a part of it.
He said, “Advanced manufacturing will be promoted and this will see a big change in this sector. Necessary facilities will have to be created for this by attracting other countries towards India. By doing this we can attract people with excellent and creative minds. Maharashtra has constituted a task force under Ease of Doing Business and has decided to make 100 reforms under it.”
Maharashtra has become the data center capital of the country, the Chief Minister said, adding that Pune is a city of manufacturing and technology.
He said, “The state government has decided to build a quantum corridor between Pune and Mumbai. Navi Mumbai is a data center city and an innovation city is being built between Pune and Mumbai. Educity is also being set up and it will include 12 best global universities, out of which 7 universities have come up.”
The Chief Minister said that India will be made a global center of advanced manufacturing by keeping Maharashtra leading in the manufacturing sector.
Thanking NITI Aayog for publishing the roadmap for the manufacturing sector in Pune, the Chief Minister said that Pune is seeing advanced technology in this sector.
He said, “For the development of the manufacturing sector, we have to move forward with new thinking. For this, frontier technology is necessary. It is also necessary to strengthen our position in global competition with new technology and face the new revolution.”
The Chief Minister said that today, the three pillars of AI, quantum computing and semiconductors have greatly impacted every sector.
NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subramaniam said that no country can develop without the manufacturing sector, adding that many changes are taking place in this sector in the world.
He said, “Maharashtra leads the country in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). However, there is a need to work continuously to stay ahead. Pune has great importance in the manufacturing sector.”
Subramaniam said that the launch of ‘National Manufacturing Mission’ was announced in the last annual budget, work is going on accordingly and it will be launched soon.
He said, “The emphasis will be on bringing the same transformation in our country that other advanced countries have brought in the manufacturing sector.”
Subramaniam said Pune has a good ecosystem for the manufacturing sector, and Pune is a leader in many sectors such as the automobile industry and information technology industry.
He appealed to the state government to also start the state manufacturing mission and for this Pune should be made a hub of frontier technology. He expressed expectation that Frontier Tech Industrial Park and residential complexes for workers should also be set up.
