Madhya Pradesh: Missing girl in Sindh River tragedy, five rescued

Datia (Madhya Pradesh), September 21 (IANS) A heartbreaking incident came to light on Sunday in Datiya district Sevara in Madhya Pradesh when six young girls participated in the traditional ‘Mamulia Visarjan’ ritual, which were swept away by strong streams of Sindh River.

The ritual celebrated during the Pitu Paksha, as a symbolic tribute to the ancestors, incorporates children who immersed the bushes (Mamulia) decorated with flowers in rivers or ponds. The girls went into the river around 7:30 am when the tragedy took place to immerse it. The police officer said the local people present at the scene managed to save five children, but 12 -year -old Simran Khatik remained missing.

The rescue operation is currently underway, in which the police, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) surround the river. Police officials said divers were eventually deployed at Shankua Ghat, but no one was present at the time of the incident, obstructing the search attempt, police officials said.

It marks the second drowning tragedy in the Sindh River in just two days.

On Saturday, a naval soldier lost his life while bathing in the river near Uchhad village. His body was recovered only the next morning, pointing to administrative laps in an emergency response.

Recurring incidents have expressed concern between residents and local leaders, seeking better preparations and fast action from disaster management teams.
