Dindori (Madhya Pradesh), November 5 (IANS) Four people, including a minor girl, were killed in a road accident near Kohni village on the Jabalpur-Amarkant road on Wednesday. An officer gave this information.
The victims were traveling on a motorcycle when they collided with a heavy trailer, investigation is ongoing.
The collision was so severe that all four riders, who are said to be from the same family, were fatally injured. Police immediately reached the spot and attempted to save the teenager – a girl of around 13-14 years of age – who was found in a critical condition.
Despite efforts to stabilize him, he died on the way to a nearby hospital and was declared dead.
The man driving the motorcycle died instantly, while two adult women also lost their lives in the accident.
Speaking to IANS, Anurag Jamdar, investigating officer and in-charge of Shahpura police station, said that the identity of the victims has not been confirmed yet as no eyewitness or family member was present to give a statement.
Preliminary findings suggest that the victims may be residents of Chaurai or Dhanauli villages in Chhindwara district.
Police officials have contacted the Sarpanch of Dhanauli villages, who is visiting the accident site to assist in identification.
Jamdar further speculated that the trailer driver might have applied brakes suddenly, causing the collision. However, the driver fled from the spot immediately after the incident and efforts are being made to trace him.
“We are investigating the possibility of mechanical failure or reckless driving, but the absence of the driver complicates the investigation,” he said.
The accident has again raised concerns about highway safety, especially on stretches where heavy vehicles and two-wheelers are frequent.
Wednesday’s tragedy adds to the growing list of fatalities on the Jabalpur-Amarkant corridor, raising demands for tighter monitoring and better infrastructure. Police are continuing their efforts to identify the victims and locate the absconding trailer driver.
