The highly anticipated Marvel movie “Mrs. Weber” held a special screening in Los Angeles on February 12. Starring Dakota Johnson, this action-adventure film is a spin-off of the popular Spider-Man film franchise. Mrs. Webb, directed by SJ Clarkson, tells the story of a woman named Cassandra Webb who develops psychic abilities. Guided by her superhuman powers, she embarks on a mission to protect three young women from a mysterious enemy who wishes them dead. “Peeping Tom” luminaries Sidney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, Celeste O’Connor and Isabella Merced also star in prominent roles. “Mrs. Weber” is scheduled to be released on February 16.
Ahead of Mrs. Weber’s theatrical premiere, the first reviews of the film’s special screening are already trending on X (formerly Twitter). Here are some of them.
For screenwriter and film journalist James Preston Poole, Lady of the Spider’s Web is a “very good” movie. “There’s really not much to say here. The main character is charming. Dakota Johnson is a witchy weirdo. The slasher/Final Destination meets superhero vibe is right there. But it’s not that big of a deal. Not a disaster . Just right there,” he said.
One user called Mrs. Webber the “best superhero movie of the year.” “It’s truly a masterpiece and worth watching on IMAX! No problem at all, I plan to watch it 5 more times.”
#MadameWeb It’s the best superhero movie of the year! This is truly a masterpiece and deserves to be seen in IMAX! Absolutely no problem, I plan to watch it 5 more times. This review is as short and sweet as the movie. 10/10 Perfect✅🤌 pic.twitter.com/c9U646YA9U— Austin Medeiros (@austin_medz) February 13, 2024
Some have called the film an emotional rollercoaster. “This is truly the most beautiful and well-crafted story ever told. I can’t believe how amazing it is. Literally brought me to tears,” they wrote.
#MadameWeb completely fine. There’s really not much to say here. The clues are fascinating. Dakota Johnson is a weirdo full of witchcraft. The slasher/Final Destination meets superhero vibe is right there. But there really isn’t much content. Not a disaster. Right there. pic.twitter.com/HVf1jsUBnO— James Preston Poole (@JamesPPoole) February 13, 2024
Keeping a neutral tone, content producer Kevin Phoenix commented: “Mrs. Weber exceeded expectations! Some of the dialogue was cheesy AF, some was heavy-handed product placement, and could probably use a little tidying up. But the actors really worked their magic.” , their chemistry is fun, and the suit looks great.”
#MadameWeb beyond expectation! Some of the dialogue is cheesy AF, some is crude product placement, and could probably use a little sprucing up.But the actors really worked their magic, their chemistry was fun and the suits looked great pic.twitter.com/UZoD5irjQx— Kevin Phoenix (@FenixDy) February 13, 2024
Highlighting some of the film’s shortcomings, another person revealed that while Dakota Johnson’s performance was “outstanding,” the rest of the cast couldn’t live up to it.
#MadameWeb This is another disappointing entry in Sony’s universe. Dakota Johnson is great, but unfortunately the same can’t be said for the rest of the cast. Not as bad as I thought it would be, but sadly it falls short of a decent movie. 2/5 pic.twitter.com/WdnIXtalBQ— Coco (@cocognz) February 13, 2024
Check out some other reviews:
I watched #MadameWeb This is bad. I tried to give it a chance but sadly the poor execution didn’t help it. The cast is great but the performances are definitely disappointing… pic.twitter.com/jCRahgVZlQ— Brandon Schultz (@bneilschultz) February 13, 2024
#MadameWeb is a clunky, poorly written, confusing, sloppy film filled with some mediocre editing and acting. Although it has solid photography and an interesting concept, it fails to save due to its poor execution.
