The World Series of Darts makes its debut in Saudi Arabia, with eight PDC Tour representatives competing against eight Asian Tour representatives.
The two-day tournament, which starts on Monday, offers a unique financial prize: a $100,000 (£74,700) bonus for the player who hits nine darts, which can be doubled if a single “gold” dart is successfully hit.
This marks the largest prize ever offered for a nine-dart finisher in the history of the sport.
The prospect will no doubt excite Littler, who recently won a world title, earned a record £1 million and signed a lucrative £20 million 10-year contract.
The 18-year-old has already completed a nine-dart shot at the World Series in Bahrain in early 2024, suggesting he will be honing his three-dart shot once again.
Former World Championship semi-finalist Mark Webster elaborated on the prize in an ITV4 report: If a player hits a nine-dart, they will receive $100,000. Not bad, right?
“Then a dart hits the bullseye, and if their next dart hits the bullseye, they get an extra $100,000.
“So 10 perfect darts are worth $200,000. That’s not bad, right? If they do it in the first round, it’s done.”
Littler will compete for the historic prize in Riyadh alongside a strong line-up including Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, Gian van Veen, Gerwyn Price, Stephen Bunting, Nathan Aspinall and Danny Noppert.
Littler defended his world title in stunning fashion, beating Dutch star Van Veen 7-1 in a one-sided final at Alexandra Palace earlier this month, and will be looking to add to his purse before the Premier League kicks off in Saudi Arabia in early February.
