A man allegedly strangled his wife and two children and kept them inside their house for nearly two days, police said Sunday.
Police arrested Ramlagan Gautam on Sunday for killing his wife Jyoti, 30, and children Payal and Anand, aged 6 and 3 respectively Germany (Anand).
DCP (south) Tej Swaroop Singh told reporters that Ramlagan Gautam is a native of Balrampur district and lives in a rented house within the jurisdiction of Bijnaur police station.
He said the murder was discovered on Sunday afternoon when the owner of the house, Dhirendra Kumar, who lives nearby, visited the house.
“There was a foul smell coming from the house. The landlord immediately went outside Ram Lagan’s room on the first floor. When he looked in from the window, he saw Jyoti’s body lying on the ground. He immediately informed police.”
He said that based on preliminary investigation, Gautam killed his wife and children on the nights of Thursday and Friday.
The police have sent the body for autopsy. They have not determined a motive behind the killing.
