A detroit The family got an unexpected early Christmas present when they were Again Along with his pet dog, who had been missing for four years.
Felicia Fritz adopted her puppyToby, in 2018. Fritz told WXYZ That Toby would occasionally visit her house, but in 2021 he left and never returned.
Four years pass, and Fritz has almost accepted that his Toby is gone forever. But Toby was still out in the world, and was eventually picked up humanitarian societyWhere he was adopted by an old man and changed his name to Ziggy.
The man who adopted Ziggy became too sick to care for the dog, so he surrendered him to Friends of Michigan Animals Rescue.
“As far as we knew, Ziggy was surrendered, and his owner would not be able to come back for him,” Krissy Povey, board member of Friends of Michigan Animals Rescue, told WXYZ.
Then a little social luck helped Ziggy or Toby find their way back home.
Ziggy spent over a year at the shelter. But he was used to being out and about with humans — shelter life was taking a toll on the dog, and the staff knew the sooner they could find him a home, the better.
Powe said, “We knew that the mental shelter was taking a toll on his mental health, and when he reached that year mark, we knew we had to work hard and try to find a home for him.”
Animal rescue workers turned to social media. They shared photos of the dog on various social networks in the hopes that they would attract potential pet owners to adopt him.
Someone from Ziggy’s past sees the photos – his former boss, Fritz.
“When I scrolled to turn off my phone… [Toby] It was right there on my phone,” she told the broadcaster.
Fritz used old photos of Toby to prove to the shelter that she was his original owner, and they eventually agreed to release the dog into her custody. The moment and Toby’s journey were shared on social media. A video of the rescue had received more than 400 likes on Facebook.
Fritz said, “Honestly, like my family being perfect, it didn’t feel real at all. It didn’t feel real at all.” “For a long time, I had lost all faith, I’m not going to lie, I had lost all faith, and when I found her, it was like, OK.”
She has since had Toby microchipped and says she will never forget the Christmas that brought her dog back to her.
She said, “It’s something I’ll never forget, my kids will never forget. I’m very blessed, and it’s something that money can’t buy.”
