Kolkata, 7 October (IANS) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has sought an immediate report from the West Bengal government on the brutal attack on BJP Lok Sabha member Khagan Murmu.
Speaking to reporters in Siliguri, North Bengal on Tuesday, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju informed it.
“The attack on MP and MLA reflects the environment that Trinmool Congress has created here. It is unfortunate. The Lok Sabha Speaker has given a notice, and the West Bengal government will submit a report. What action can be taken only after receiving the details.”
The Union Minister reached North Bengal during the day to take stock of the damage caused by heavy rains and landslides. He will also visit several landslide affected places in the Darjeeling hills.
“This is not only a matter of MPs and MLAs; every citizen’s safety must be ensured. India has laws. If someone takes that law into their own hands and attacks someone, acts like a bullying, action should be taken,” he said.
The Union Minister on Monday slammed the Trinamool Congress to open a jungle raj in Bengal. “The cruel attack on Khagen Murmu, a respected tribal leader and a two -time MP from North Malda, was barbaric. He was on the way to Nagkata for the destructive rains, floods and relief efforts after the landslides. I am reaching North West Bengal to stock up destructive damage in an X post.”
BJP Maldaha North MP Khagan Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh were brutally attacked by miscreants, while on their way to meet landslide-affected people of North Bengal and distribute relief materials.
While Ghosh retained minor injuries, the two -time BJP MP gave serious injuries to his face and head.
The incident took place in Nagkata in Jalpaiguri district of North Bengal.
The BJP MP was taken to a primary health center for immediate treatment. Currently, BJP MP is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Siliguri in North Bengal. His condition is stable.
It turns out that Murmu has fractured the bone under his left eye. He has to undergo surgery. He has been admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Siliguri. However, it has not yet been decided whether the surgery will be performed here or will be taken to AIIMS in Delhi. Since the bone under his eye is fragmented, doctors are trying to find out whether the eyeball or the surrounding area is damaged. West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose has already visited the injured MP at the hospital.
On Monday night, the BJP lodged a complaint against eight people at Nagkata police station in Jalpaiguri district and staged a protest outside the police station, seeking action against the accused. However, no one has been arrested so far in connection with the incident.
