LPDDR6 memory standard to debut on Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC: Report

LPDDR6 RAM (Low Power Double Data Rate 6 Random Access Memory) – The next generation of RAM may appear later this year. It is expected to be released in the third quarter of this year and will be available for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. LPDDR6 memory will replace the existing LPDDR5 memory and is expected to provide higher data transfer speeds and higher bandwidth compared to previous products. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 series is said to be equipped with LPDDR6 memory and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, increasing data bandwidth for performing artificial intelligence tasks. This could give the flagship series an edge over the next-generation iPhone 16 series.

according to a Report According to Korean media AjuNews, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are accelerating the mass production of LPDDR6 DRAM to take a leading position in the artificial intelligence-driven industry. According to reports, LPDDR6 memory, which will replace the existing LPDDR5, provides improved data bandwidth for faster processing of artificial intelligence tasks on the device.

According to reports, the Joint Electronic Devices Engineering Committee (JEDEC) will announce the characteristics of LPDDR6 DRAM in September. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are also expected to launch their LPDDR6 DRAM chips at the same time.

The current generation LPDDR5 DRAM standard was announced in February 2019. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have launched LPDDR5X and LPDDR5T variants respectively.

LPDDR6 performance remains under wraps. The maximum bandwidth of LPDDR5 is 6.4Gbps, while the bandwidth of LPDDR5X is 8.5Gbps. LPDDR6 memory is expected to be used in phones powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC to increase data bandwidth for performing artificial intelligence tasks. The Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ models are expected to run on next-gen Qualcomm chipsets in select countries, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra is likely to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC globally.

Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC equipped with Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU core is expected to be available in October this year. Presumably, these CPU cores and the new LPDDR6 perform faster than the CPU cores in Apple’s upcoming A18 Pro.
