Gandhinagar, 19 September (IANS) Minister of State for Gujarat Harsh Sanghvi has said that ‘Love Jihad has no place in the state, and people involved in the Act will have to face strict punishment.
He said that a 20-year-old woman was allegedly lured into a relationship after a high-hand operation by the Gandhinagar police in Assam and snatched by a person from the state.
The accused, known as Soif Abdul Manf Udin, who worked as a housekeeping supervisor at Gandhinagar Hotel, allegedly implicated the woman in a love affair and fled with her in Assam.
Despite the challenges, Udin had converted his phone into flight mode and rely on only WiFi calls, causing technical tracking to almost impossible-LCB and Sector-7 police teams of the fort deployed technical analysis and human intelligence mixture to track it. After combing through several districts in Assam, the team located the accused in the Murzar area of Hojai district and brought the woman safely back into her family.
The Minister of State Harsha Sanghvi congratulated the Gandhinagar police team for his fast action, reiterating that Gujarat would not tolerate the matters of “love jihad” or will try to cheat women under false identity. “Gujarat is a peace-loving state, and people involved in such crimes will face the most strict legal action,” he said.
The operation was supervised by Dig Virendra Singh Yadav and SP Ravi Teja Vasamsetti, in which deputy SP Divy Prakash Gohil, Deputy Released Um Gadhvi and Police Inspector JJ Garhvi, among the ground teams, among others. Police officials said the successful operation was a message that law enforcement in Gujarat is committed to protecting young women and ensuring such crimes is not rooted in the state.
In Gujarat, “Love Jihad” is a controversial term used by political leaders and right -wing groups to describe cases where Muslim men allegedly captivate Hindu women in relationships or marriages for the purpose of religious conversion. The state government has taken a tough stance, amending the Dharma Act of Gujarat Freedom in 2021, criminalized for adaptation through marriage, force or deceit.
