The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has retained Nishikant Dubey as its candidate from the Godda Lok Sabha constituency in Jharkhand. Mr. Dubey is a three-time MP and part of the BJP’s first list of candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A firebrand leader, he came into the spotlight for speeches in parliament defending the government.

  • Nishikant Dubey was born on January 28, 1969 and spent his early life in Bhagalpur, Bihar. He graduated from Marwari College, Bhagalpur and then did his MBA and PhD in Management from Pratap University, Jaipur, Rajasthan. During his student days, Mr. Dubey was a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
  • Nishikant Dubey is the Director of Essar Group. In 2009, he bid farewell to the corporate world and entered politics during an election year. In 2009, he contested from the Godda seat on the BJP ticket and defeated Fukran Ansari of the Congress party.
  • Mr. Dubey rode the BJP wave and expanded his advantage in 2014. The BJP swept the Lok Sabha contests in Jharkhand, winning 12 of the 14 seats. Mr Dubey defeated Pradeep Yadav of the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha Party, which merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2020.
  • Nishikant Dubey hit the headlines in 2023 when he led calls for an investigation into Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, accusing her of taking bribes for criticizing the government. Marwa Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha after the parliamentary ethics committee found her guilty.
  • In 2022, an FIR was lodged against Mr Dubey and his BJP colleague Manoj Tiwari for allegedly forcing air traffic control officials at the Deoghar airport to authorize takeoffs during the no-fly period. The FIR was eventually quashed by the Jharkhand High Court in 2023.
