Dr Jitendra Singh, a two-time MP and junior minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet, is targeting a hat-trick in Udhampur in the upcoming polls.
He made his debut in the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, defeating Ghulam Nabi Azad, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and then Congress leader, by over 60,000 votes. Giant killer. 1. Dr. Jitendra Singh was born on November 6, 1956 in Jammu to a Hindu Dogra Rajput family. He is the eldest son of Rajinder Singh and Shanti Devi. His younger brother Devendra Singh Rana was a key aide to former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah until joining the BJP in 2021. Dr. Singh married at the age of 26 and has two sons with his wife, Manju Singh.
2. Dr. Jitendra Singh is a medical doctor and received his MBBS and MD degrees from Stanley Medical College, Chennai, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, Government Medical College, Jammu, and Amity University, Noida. He is a doctor of medicine.
3. Dr. Singh also writes for newspapers as a columnist. He first wrote for Kashmir Times and later for Daily Affair – one of the most popular newspapers in Jammu and Kashmir. Before being elected to Congress in 2014, his weekly column Tales of Travesty appeared in the editorial section of the Daily Excelsior. Additionally, he is a professor of diabetes and endocrinology and the author of eight books.
4. Dr. Singh started his political career in 2008 when he was appointed as the spokesperson of the umbrella organization of right-wing political parties during the Amarnath land transfer controversy. He retired as professor of endocrinology at the Government Medical College, Jammu, and joined the BJP.
5. In the past 10 years as a Member of Parliament, Dr. Singh has served as Minister of State for Science and Technology, Minister of State for Development of North East Region, Minister of State for Earth Sciences, Minister of State for Space and Atomic Energy, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
