Lizzo faced accusations of hypocrisy after the release of a video promoting body positivity, following controversy over allegations she “shamed” her fellow dancers.
The singer shared the video on Tuesday, in which she sarcastically gives advice on getting a “summer body.”
In the clip, Lizzo walks on a treadmill in a pastel pink swimsuit, speaking to the camera with lines like, “Three exercises to help you get your summer body.”
Later, she stood by the pool answering the phone, “Hello? Who are you?” and advising viewers to “block your ex” before throwing her phone into the water.
Wearing a purple bikini top and bottom, the singer appeared to do bicep curls before lifting a bottle of wine, advising viewers to “remember to over-hydrate.”
In the final clip, she says while lounging by the pool: “Remember, you can never be too extra.”
She captioned the post: “Because every damn body is a summer body.”
However, the post didn’t go down well with some Lizzo fans, especially considering she’s been accused of shaming her fellow dancers before.
They expressed disbelief when commenting on the video, with one commenting: “Are you still shaming people?”
Another commented, “OMG she’s trying so hard right now,” while another predicted,
“Don’t worry y’all. Gaslighting is no longer judging my body… my resignation post will be up soon.”
Others defended her, saying her influence changed the way people think about body positivity.
One supporter wrote: “She single-handedly changed the way people think about body positivity. Partners love a confident queen regardless of their body shape.”
