“In my two battles with other newspapers, I have never encountered this brutal invasion of privacy. I am devastated. This is the ultimate invasion of privacy.”

She is one of seven claimants taking legal action against Associated Newspapers Ltd, alleging unlawful information collection, including phone hacking and “leaking” of private records.

She said: “I feel so ashamed that my son will be able to read all of this one day and it makes me so sad that today all of this is being regurgitated again.

“I feel so helpless that everyone’s privacy has once again been so horrifically invaded.”

Ms Hurley also told the court she once believed the British press was the best in the world and to some extent still does.

She continued: “I have no animosity towards the British media. I have no animosity or animosity towards the AP at all, I just feel like something bad is happening to some bad people.”
