On Friday, Feb. 17, the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend will commence in Salt Lake City, Utah, with all eyes eagerly anticipating the skills competitions on All-Star Saturday Night. Fans eagerly anticipate the 3-Point Contest and Slam Dunk Contest, which always offer an enthralling experience.

Despite the absence of regular Slam Dunk Contest headliners, the four participants reportedly selected are currently among the highest flyers in the NBA. Fans will witness several NBA All-Stars, such as Jayson Tatum, Damian Lillard, and Tyrese Haliburton, compete in the 3-Point Contest beforehand.

Who will dominate this weekend’s events? Below is a breakdown of the major All-Star competitions and the players participating.

2023 NBA Slam Dunk Contest participants

In the Slam Dunk Contest, four players will compete in two rounds, with each player attempting two dunks in the first round. The two players with the highest combined scores for their two dunks will progress to the final round. The finalists will perform two more dunks, and the player with the highest combined score from all four dunks will be crowned as the winner of the Slam Dunk Contest.

During the 3-Point Contest, eight participants will shoot at the standard five locations around the arc with four racks of four regular balls worth one point and one money ball worth two points, along with one specialized rack containing five money balls. Players have the liberty to pick their preferred spots for the money ball racks.

There will be two “Starry Zones” positioned six feet behind the 3-point line, each holding one money ball worth three points. With the introduction of these zones, the NBA has extended the time limit from 60 seconds to 70 seconds and increased the maximum score from 34 points to 40 points.

The contest is split into two rounds, with the top three scorers from the first round advancing to the final round. The participant with the highest score in the final round will emerge as the winner of the 3-Point Contest.
