New Delhi, Nov 2 (IANS) Lieutenant General Avinash Das, with nearly four decades of experience in the armed forces medical services, has taken charge as Commandant of the Army Hospital Research and Referral (R&R), a Defense Ministry official said on Sunday.
Lieutenant General Avinash Das, an alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and an accomplished ENT surgeon, took charge on Saturday, a statement issued by the ministry said.
He brings with him a blend of clinical expertise, leadership and experience in key administrative and command appointments, the official said in a statement.
Lieutenant General Avinash Das has held important positions including Senior Consultant at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt and Command Hospital, Lucknow.
Throughout his career, Lieutenant General Avinash Das has demonstrated exemplary leadership and dedication and has earned numerous awards including COAS, CISC and GOC-in-C Commendation Cards.
As Commandant of the Command Hospital (Northern Command), he was instrumental in shifting the entire Command Hospital, Udhampur to a new, state-of-the-art hospital building.
His appointment as Commandant of the Army Hospital (R&R) is expected to further raise the standards of the hospital with his vast experience in providing exceptional medical care in the armed forces and beyond.
His goal is to carry forward the hospital’s legacy by fostering innovation and excellence in patient care, medical research and education.
According to the ministry, the new charge for Lieutenant General Avinash Das coincides with similar top postings in other armed forces, including the Indian Navy.
The official statement said that Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh on Saturday met the Chief of Personnel of the Indian Navy and Vice Admiral B. Shivakumar took charge as the 40th material chief.
Vice Admiral Singh, an alumnus of the National Defense Academy (Khadakwasla), was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1990, an official statement said.
Having held several distinguished appointments both afloat and ashore, he served on board the Indian Naval Ships Ranjit and Prahar, as a specialist in gunnery and missiles. Vice Admiral Singh also has the distinction of being part of the commissioning crews of three indigenously built warships, namely as Gunnery Officer in INS Brahmaputra, as Executive Officer in INS Shivalik, and as Commanding Officer in INS Kochi. He has also commanded INS Vidyut and INS Khukri.
Vice Admiral Shivakumar is an alumnus of the 70th Course, NDA and was commissioned into the Indian Navy as an Electrical Officer on 1 July 1987.
With a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Chennai, he holds a Master’s in Higher Defense Management from Osmania University, an M.Phil from Madras University and is an alumnus of the National Defense College.
