Dehradun, Nov 9 (IANS) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday extended hearty greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of its 25th Foundation Day and called upon the public to take a pledge to make the state “harmonious, strong and self-reliant”.
Uttarakhand, often called Devbhoomi (Land of the Gods), became the 27th state of India on 9 November 2000 by separating from Uttar Pradesh.
The day is celebrated as a tribute to the journey from a people’s movement to a model of balanced development, faith and modernity.
Extending his wishes in a video message, CM Dhami said, “It is a matter of immense pride for all of us that in the last 25 years, Devbhoomi Uttarakhand has ensured new dimensions of development and has made commendable progress in the fields of health, education, tourism, culture, environment protection and employment, of which we have all been witnesses.”
He credited the people who fought for the formation of Uttarakhand and the thousands of protesters for the state’s achievements in the last 25 years.
He further said, “Our heritage, cultural heritage, our language and our deeds, hardworking godlike people have always proved that Uttarakhand is a land of infinite possibilities. Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is famous as the land of liberation as well as the land of knowledge.”
CM Dhami said, “On this silver jubilee anniversary, let us all pledge together that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand becomes a harmonious, strong and self-reliant Uttarakhand and is established as the leading and most respected state of the country.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Dehradun on Sunday to attend the silver jubilee celebrations of Uttarakhand and inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various development projects worth over Rs 8,140 crore, which includes inaugurating projects worth over Rs 930 crore and laying the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 7,210 crore.
The projects to be inaugurated by PM Modi relate to key sectors such as drinking water, irrigation, technical education, energy, urban development, sports and skill development.
He will release assistance amounting to Rs 62 crore to more than 28,000 farmers directly into their bank accounts under the PM Crop Insurance Scheme.
