Let’s declare an emergency: Pilot sends distress call as Boeing engine cover rips off

A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 was taking off from Denver International Airport when the engine cover blew open and fell off while the plane was still on the runway, leaving the engine exposed.

Video footage captured the moment through the passenger window.

According to an air traffic control recording obtained by KHOU, a crew member told controllers that multiple passengers and flight attendants heard a loud impact on the wing. Therefore, the crew declared an emergency and requested an immediate return to the airport.

No injuries were reported among the 135 passengers, two infants on their laps and six crew members.
