Leaked iPhone 16 case hints at pill-shaped rear camera island

According to previous reports, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus may debut in the second half of 2024 with some design tweaks. A leaked image shows two cases for iPhone 16 models, giving us a good idea of ​​what to expect from the successors to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. It is said that this year’s standard model will adopt a vertical pill-shaped layout, with rounded edges replacing the square camera island on the iPhone 15 series and other previous models.

Tipster Sonny Dickson leaked images of two smartphone cases via X (formerly Twitter). The case on the left appears to be slightly larger, which means it may fit the iPhone 16 Plus, while the standard model case may be on the right. Both cases feature a vertical rear camera bump, as well as a plastic cutout for the LED flash next to the camera island.

While a new camera layout may be part of the new design, which has been mentioned several times over the past few months, MacRumors notes The upcoming smartphone may also come with a vertically aligned dual rear camera setup to support spatial recording – a feature that is reportedly not supported on the iPhone 15 as the phone has a diagonal camera layout.

This year, Apple’s action buttons are expected to expand from iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to all four models of the iPhone 16 series. The leaked case also appears to show the Action button found on regular iPhone 16 models, as well as a cutout for the rumored Shoot button expected to launch later this year.

Another image recently shared by the tipster shows a cutout on the alleged iPhone 16 Pro model that could be the camera button on Apple’s upcoming flagship phone. Meanwhile, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max color options have also been leaked, with the company’s high-end smartphones likely to launch in four color options later this year.
