New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS) Gangster Anmol Bishnoi, the main accused in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui, is being extradited from the US to India, a development termed by political leaders as a major success in the fight against organized crime.

Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol is also wanted in a case related to the April 2024 shooting at actor Salman Khan’s residence.

He is expected to reach Delhi on Wednesday along with two other persons wanted in Punjab.

Responding to the deportation, AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang told IANS, “Considering the rise in gangster-related incidents in Punjab and those responsible, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is committed to addressing the issue from day one. It is our priority to bring back all those gangsters who are living abroad after committing crimes here. We also hope that the Center will help us in the process. It is good that Anmol Bishnoi is being brought back.” Necessary action will be taken against him.”

Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema also expressed similar views and said, “The repatriated gangster will be punished as per law. He will be arrested, investigated and produced in the court for further action in the cases registered against him.”

He said this is a major success for the Punjab Police, emphasizing that a gangster who had fled the country is finally coming back to face legal consequences.

He said, “We are committed to make Punjab gangster-free. Congress and BJP had turned Punjab into gangland and today, we are ending it by punishing every single gangster.”

AAP MLA Brahma Shankar Jimpa told IANS, “The Indian government has taken up the case of gangsters, which is a very good step. The Punjab government will ensure that whoever is sentenced as per the law, will serve his sentence.”

Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta called the move a diplomatic exercise of the Centre, and said, “It is the result of the Modi government’s foreign policy and India’s relations with other countries that forces trying to create unrest in India are being stopped. Bringing back Anmol Bishnoi is also a result of this.”

JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said, “Our agencies and foreign policy are so strong that whoever commits a crime will be brought to justice.”

According to sources, Anmol had fled India using a fake passport in April 2022, just weeks before singer Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead on May 29 that year.

He was believed to have used fake Russian documents while moving between the US and Canada until he was tracked down and detained.

NCP leader and former MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui, son of late Baba Siddiqui, confirmed that he had received an email stating that Anmol has been “removed” from the US territory.

He said his family has filed victim contact status with US agencies, making them entitled to official updates, and urged the Center to ensure Anmol’s immediate arrest upon arrival.

Siddiqui said he had repeatedly written to US authorities in detail about his father’s murder and the suspected role of the Bishnoi network.

He also said that he has expressed concerns about his safety to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Union Minister Devendra Fadnavis and sought a review in view of the recent developments.
