The Law Commission of India is set to submit its report on ‘One Nation, One Poll’ next week. The report will be submitted to the Ministry of Law and Justice and a high level committee.
Top sources of the Law Commission confirmed this to CNN-News18 and said that the report will be submitted next week.
Sources said the biggest hurdle facing the commission was the constitutional amendments required to facilitate ‘one nation, one election’.
However, all the hurdles have now been addressed, sources said, adding that the report is nearing completion.
The committee for ONOP, headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind, was formed by the Narendra Modi-led BJP government in September last year.
The idea of ’One Nation, One Poll’ or ‘One Nation, One Election’ is to hold simultaneous elections across the country, which means elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies will be held simultaneously.
