'Last attack...': AAP announces massive protests over Arvind Kejriwal arrest

New Delhi:

A day ahead of a massive march against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi said the opposition will present a united front in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Her remarks came amid several reports of rifts within the Indian alliance among parties that have joined forces to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in elections.

Addressing a press conference, Atish said: “The Indian Alliance is one of them. When (Arvind Kejriwal) was arrested, key leaders of the Congress party were present. All leaders of the alliance were present. To have a voice on it.”

She added: “Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest is a final attack on the murder of democracy and the opposition will also make its voice heard tomorrow.”

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate last week in connection with a money laundering case related to Delhi’s liquor policy.

The case relates to alleged corruption and money laundering by the Delhi government in formulating and implementing the GST policy for 2021-22, which was later repealed.

The AAP and other opposition leaders will take to the streets of Delhi tomorrow to protest against the arrest. Top Indian Group leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Malikajon Khargage, Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, will attend the ‘Maha Rally’ at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.

AAP leader Gopal Rai said they expected large crowds to come out and join the protest tomorrow. He claimed that there was serious anger among the people ever since the BJP government at the Center and the Prime Minister arrested the democratically elected Chief Minister of Delhi. He said people from all walks of life and professions, students, youth and RWA members are expected to attend the rally.
