Norris reached Austin 22 points behind himself mclaren Teammates in the standings.
British The driver is facing unspecified “repercussions” from his own team after McLaren ruled he was responsible for colliding wheels with teammate Piastri on the first lap in Singapore a fortnight ago.
It is understood these results will be game related and Norris suggested it could also be something that matters to him for the remainder of the season.
McLaren CEO Jack Brown said he considered Norris’s indiscretion to be “minor” and that the consequences would be proportionate, adding that their only rule was not to touch each other.
After finishing ahead of his teammate in each of the last three races, Norris’ quest to overtake Piastri and clinch the drivers’ championship began in tremendous fashion in the only practice session of the weekend.
He finished the session 0.279 seconds behind third-placed Piastri, with Sauber’s Nico Hülkenberg finishing an impressive second ahead of Fernando Alonso in fourth.

There are 33 points up for grabs throughout the weekend in Austin, including Saturday’s sprint followed by Sunday’s main race.
Lewis Hamilton, a five-time winner at the Circuit of the Americas, enjoyed a strong opening session and was more than half a second off the field on the early hard-tyre runs.
Once the tires went soft, he dropped down the order in his Ferrari and finished the session in eighth place.
Qualifying for the sprint starts at 1630 local time (2230 BST).
