In a historical and unprecedented step towards providing timely relief to road accident victims, the active approach of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Regional Transport Officer, in coordination with Jammu’s initiative and with the cooperation of Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Jammu and Chief Medical Officer Jammu, have resulted in a major breakthrough under J&K road accident.
In the last three months, a total amount of ₹ 50,50,000 has been directly deposited in the bank accounts of the legal heirs of deceased and injured persons in road accidents in Jammu district.
In all 47 death cases, each legal heir has been credited to ₹ 1,00,000, with an amount of ₹ 47,00,000.10, the injured persons have received compensation based on the seriousness of the injuries, which ₹ 75,000 for serious injuries, ₹ 50,000 for medium injuries and ₹ 10,000 for minor injuries.
It comes as an important step in implementing the afflicted provisions of J&K Road Accident Victim Fund Rules, 2022, which aims to provide immediate financial assistance to the victims or their families after tragic road events.
In addition to the detained cases, 12 and death cases and 5 injured cases are currently under active consideration and compensation of these cases is expected to be submitted soon, which can further strengthen the commitment of the district administration for the welfare of road accident victims.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu expressed deep satisfaction over the implementation of the fund and appreciated the spontaneous inter-departmental coordination which made it possible.
