Car bonnet is required due to increasing height limit SUVsA new report found, given the rising risk for children.
Transport and Environment (T&E) revealed that UK drivers buy an inconsistent High number of new cars With an elevated bonnet compared to the European Union (EU).
Studies, including UK, European Union and Norway, advocate the ban New vehicles More than 85 cm with bonnet heights, to be applied in 2035, which gives time to customize the manufacturers.
Research indicated that the average bonnet height of new cars sold in the UK, European Union and Norway increased from 76.9 cm in 2010 to 83.8 cm in 2024, an average increase of half a centimeter annually.
The trend aligns with an increase in sales of SUVs, which was responsible for one third of all new car registrations in the UK last year, while about 12 percent a decade ago.
The SUV is usually longer, wider and heavy than traditional cars, and less fuel-skilled. Many drivers prefer their seating positions.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Jeep account for all the sale of vehicles in the UK, EU and Norway with a bonnet of over one meter.
Despite only 15 percent of the sale of all vehicles being done in the country, Britain took 39 percent of these transactions.
T&E accused JLR and Jeep that “trading on threats with high-finished vehicles (and) ignoring their related threats”.
Researchers found that in accidents, high -bonnet vehicles were more likely to attack the heads of vital organs of children and adults.
The report said that killing pedestrians above their center of gravity meant that the person was likely to knock under the car, rather than pushing him.
The Lofboro University School of Design Test found that the drivers in the most front vehicles could not see children as old as old.
The report states: “The increase in high-affected SUVs is a clear and increasing threat to public safety, especially for children.
“With no benefit to society and with increasing evidence of loss, it is time for MPs to work at all levels.
“Caping the bonnet height to curb the safety of all road users and the spread of oversized vehicles is a simple, effective step.
“It is neither safe nor reliable to increase the height of the bonnet.”

Director of Motoring Research Charity The RAC Foundation Steve Gooding said: “In the last decade, the number of pedestrians on the roads has been hurt or killed, but only at the rate of about half of the car residents.
“This is a dependent on car manufacturers to ensure that they pay enough attention to the people around a vehicle, because for people within, and this will include assessing the height and weight of the car.”
Mike HayesChief Executive Officer of Industry Body Society of motor manufacturers and traders,
“Such innovations help to ensure that very latest models are fast safe for all on the road and in fact, while manufacturers respond to market tastes and preferences, they ensure that all cars – despite size and body type – complete all relevant rules.”
A spokesman at JLR said: “JLR is committed to the highest security standards and our vehicles are designed with the most strict adherence for safety requirements.
“We consistently invest in security and advanced technology features, among other things, pedestrian detection, 3D surround camera system and autonomous emergency braking.”
Jeep was contacted for a comment.
Last week, members of the London Assembly agreed to call a proposal to Sir Sadiq Khan, the city’s mayor Sir Sadiq Khan, to charge high taxes and parking fee for the SUV.
