Ottawa – Dominic Labbank says they hope that Prime Minister Mark Carney and US President Donald Trump “will” speak “in the next days because the United States pressures the trade talks.
Canada-American Trade Minister appeared on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday and talked about where the conversation between the two countries was standing.
Labbank told hosts Margaret Brainon that while Canada is “disappointed” with Trump’s new 35-percent-per cent tariff, he is continuing to work towards a deal that hopes to reduce trade restrictions between nations.
Labwank was in Washington last week, trying to find common land with the Trump administration before the Friday deadline to secure a new deal among business partners.
While Mexico was delayed by 90 days on new duties, Trump on Friday hit Canada with a 35-per cent-per cent tariff on all goods, which are not in line with the Canada-US-Maxico agreement on trade.
Canada also continues to face Steel, Aluminum and Automobiles as well as American tariffs on Trump’s new 50-percent-per cent tariffs on semi-tailed copper products.
