Kutumba falls under Aurangabad district of Bihar and was redefined after the delimitation exercise in 2008. It is one of the six assembly constituencies under the Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat, which is currently held by Abhay Kushwaha of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Lalan Ram was the first person to win from Kutumba assembly in 2010, when he represented Janata Dal (United).
Later, Rajesh Kumar registered consecutive victories in the 2015 and 2020 elections. His victory in the last assembly elections in Bihar was largely helped by the division of votes between HAM, LJP (RV) and the then independent candidate Lalan Ram.
This time Rajesh Kumar and Lalan Ram are facing tough competition from Prashant Kishore-led Jan Suraj Party (JSP) candidate Shyambali Ram.
Despite being an independent candidate in 2020, Lalan Ram got more than 20,000 votes. This time, the NDA has officially supported him and fielded him against Rajesh Kumar considering his strong ties with the local people.
In March this year, Congress had appointed Rajesh Kumar as the new president of its Bihar unit. He replaced Akhilesh Prasad Singh. Kumar is the son of former Bihar Health Minister Dilkeshwar Ram.
There are 11 candidates in the fray from Kutumba seat in the 2025 assembly elections in Bihar, but the main contest is between Rajesh Kumar and Lalan Ram.
There are a total of 2,71,697 registered voters in the region, of which 1,27,123 are women.
HAM is contesting the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This includes JDU led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, LJP (Ram Vilas) and RLM among others.
Congress is part of the grand alliance, which includes RJD, Left parties and VIP.
