Bengaluru, Nov 1 (IANS) Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Friday hit out at Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s remarks asking journalists to “talk to Deputy CM DK Shivakumar” on the issue of potholes in Bengaluru, calling it the “height of irresponsibility”.
Speaking to reporters, Kumaraswamy said: “I noted the CM’s statement… It is extremely irresponsible. One begins to wonder who is the real Chief Minister – Siddaramaiah or DK Shivakumar. It was Siddaramaiah himself who chaired a meeting and set a deadline for filling potholes. But even after the deadline, the roads are full of potholes. This shows how little importance officials give to the CM’s words. Are.”
The former chief minister said Siddaramaiah’s comments reflected his inability to manage the state’s affairs effectively. “He should not make such statements,” he said.
On speculation of a possible “November revolution” and reports that Shivakumar may take oath as chief minister on November 21, Kumaraswamy said: “It is an internal matter of his party. It is for him to decide. I would not like to comment on his internal decisions.”
He further said that the Congress-led government has two and a half years left in its tenure but is already making a “mockery” of itself. “There is no need for the opposition to speak. Ministers and people holding responsible positions are themselves speaking in different voices. Even NDA allies do not need to criticize them – their own MLAs and ministers are doing so,” he said.
Commenting on reports that BBMP employees were dumping garbage in front of houses, Kumaraswamy said: “I saw in the media that BBMP employees were throwing garbage in front of people’s houses. What kind of logic is this? If citizens throw garbage on the streets, bring that garbage back and dump it in front of houses – then what purpose does it serve? Instead of taking scientific measures to handle garbage disposal, the government has created a new trend of dumping garbage in front of houses. ‘Abhinav’ program has been started.
On the proposed tunnel road project, the Union Minister said, “Let’s see when they actually start the work. Will they consult experts before starting or start it suddenly? My concern is about the problems of daily commuters of Bengaluru. Whether they will build a tunnel or an elevated road, it is for the government to decide. But they should stop playing with the lives of citizens.”
Continuing his criticism of the Congress government, Kumaraswamy said, “People’s properties are being grabbed in the state and Bengaluru. Goons and miscreants are being protected, while the hard-earned properties of citizens are being looted. Sooner or later this has to be stopped.”
BJP leader R. On Ashok’s statement that his party is ready for mid-term elections, Kumaraswamy said, “If he says he is ready, we are also ready. If elections are announced, we will face him. But I do not want to speculate about mid-term elections. Congress has 136 MLAs; if they can resolve their internal differences, their government will survive. If not, it will fall.”
When asked about the government’s delay in completing the socio-economic and educational survey, he said: “What do they expect to achieve from this survey? How much of it has actually been completed? How many people have participated? They should first focus on identifying the poor across all castes. There are poor people in every community. Instead, they are busy doing political surveys.”
He said: “The report says 63,000 teaching posts are vacant in the state, and 94 per cent of teaching posts are vacant in Bengaluru University. When there are such huge vacancies, what is the point of conducting a survey? This is not a survey for the welfare of the people; it is a tool of the Congress party’s hidden agenda.”
