Hyderabad, Oct 8 (IANS) Telangana’s prestigious Kalyana Gurukul educational institute, once a model for the entire nation, is on the verge of closure due to non-payment of building rent, India said on Wednesday.
He launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over what he called his government’s incompetence.
KTR said in a statement that the closure of Gurukul schools, which transformed the lives of millions of poor students, is a dark chapter in the governance of Telangana.
The BRS leader accused the chief minister, who also holds the education portfolio, of gross negligence, saying the rent arrears have been pending for almost a year. He alleged that Revanth Reddy’s inaction was a result of former CM K. It was part of a larger conspiracy to destroy the visionary welfare model built by Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) and erase the legacy of KCR’s rule.
“While the CM sits on crores of rupees, the buildings that poor students dream of are being closed down. This reflects not just incompetence but deliberate cruelty,” KTR said. He warned that the government’s failure to clear basic dues also reflected a collapse of fiscal and administrative discipline.
KTR also criticized the Congress government for simultaneously withdrawing the fee reimbursement dues, pushing thousands of students into uncertainty. He said, “Revanth Reddy is not just bankrupting the treasury; he is bankrupting the future of our youth.”
He reminded that Telangana’s Gurukul system—a world-class, residential education for backward class, SC, ST, minority, and economically weaker upper-caste students—was a revolutionary step that brought equality and empowerment. “If the Congress government dares to destroy this inclusive system, BRS will not remain silent,” KTR warned.
They demanded that the government immediately release all pending rent arrears to safeguard the education and dignity of students. “If Congress continues this anti-student attitude and allows Gurukul schools to be closed, we will mobilize a statewide movement along with students and parents to teach this arrogant government a lesson,” the BRS leader declared.
Accusing Telangana of pushing itself into a debt of Rs 2.5 lakh crore within two years while failing to pay even basic rent, KTR demanded complete transparency as to where public funds are being diverted. “The people of Telangana will soon hold him accountable for this betrayal,” he said.
