Hyderabad, October 1 (IANS) India President Committee (BRS) Executive Chairman KT Ram Rao on Wednesday claimed that farmer suicides in Telangana are growing again under Congress rule, more than 700 farmers have ended their lives during the last two years.
The former minister said that the former Chief Minister. During the tenure of Chandrashekhar Rao’s (KCR), farmer suicides in the state, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), had recorded the fastest decline in the entire country.
KTR told media individuals that schemes such as Ritu Bandhu and Ritu Bima started a golden era for Telangana farmers, providing unprecedented financial stability and confidence.
The BRS leader said that Telangana had achieved remarkable progress under the leadership of KCR, but the situation has completely deteriorated after the Congress assumed power. He said, “By the end of KCR’s tenure, farmer suicides had reduced only 56 cases. But in just two years of the Congress rule, more than 700 tragic farmer deaths have been recorded. It is a clear reflection of Congress’s disability and inhuman rule.”
Quoting NCRB data, KTR stated that during the decade-long rules of KCR, Telangana gained the most decrease in farmer suicides in the country. In 2014, Telangana recorded 1,347 farmers suicides. By 2023, the number had been reduced to just 56, marking the decline of 95.84 percent. In 2014, Telangana committed 10.9 percent of the farmers across the country, but by 2023, it fell to only 0.51 percent.
Explaining the reasons for this progress, KTR stated that the Ritu Bandhu Direct Income Support, Ritu Bima Insurance Cover, mass irrigation projects and 24-hour free power supply to agriculture gave farmers safety, stability and confidence.
KTR urged the rest of the nation to learn from the example of Telangana. “Neighbor in Maharashtra, where BJP is in power, farmers suicides continue at dangerous levels. The real question is: If Telangana can achieve this change, why cannot Maharashtra and other states not be?
The Executive President of BRS said that if farmers have to live with dignity and security, and if welfare-oriented governance is to be continued, Telangana needs KCR as Chief Minister.
