Hyderabad, Nov 2 (IANS) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s silence on the demolition of houses of the poor by the Congress government in Telangana.
The BRS leader asked why Rahul Gandhi, who had earlier challenged the Delhi and Uttar Pradesh governments to “attack them”, was turning a blind eye to the “injustice” in Telangana.
While giving a presentation on the demolition carried out by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Property Protection Agency (HYDRAA), KTR played an old video clip of Rahul Gandhi’s statement in Delhi in which he had said that the government would have to bulldoze over his body.
The presentation, with the slogan “A separate justice for the rich and the poor”, highlighted the devastation caused by Hydra. Many people affected by these actions also spoke about the perceived injustice done to them.
The BRS leader alleged that many people were victims of the “anarchy” being carried out by the government in the name of Hydra in Hyderabad. He said that many others have also suffered losses due to the Musi project and Hydra operations.
He claimed that there was large-scale development and construction in the state during the 10-year rule of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR). “One lakh double-bedroom houses were built in Hyderabad alone. A secretariat was built, which can rival the White House, and the country’s largest police command and control center was built,” he said.
He said 42 flyovers and underpasses were constructed in Hyderabad, collector buildings were established in every district and major irrigation projects were completed.
“Look at the contrast. In these two years, what (Chief Minister) Revanth Reddy has done is only destruction,” he said.
Expressing confidence that the KCR-led government will return to power within 500 days, KTR promised that justice will be done to all.
Accusing the Congress government of having “one system of justice for the rich and another for the poor”, he alleged that barely a week after the housewarming ceremony, a house was bulldozed.
Displaying videos and photographs, the BRS leader said that in one incident, a pregnant woman was pushed to protest against demolition, while in another incident, a three-year-old child was left without food.
Citing a recent presentation given by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, KTR questioned why the government bulldozed the houses of the poor and not the houses of big builders.
“If everyone is equal before the government, why didn’t it go after the rich and powerful? Why weren’t notices issued to them?” he asked.
KTR said that although Hydra had claimed that it would not spare anyone constructing buildings within Full Tank Level (FTL) areas, it did not take action against influential persons.
Alleging that a revenue minister had built a house by filling a lake, KTR asked whether the Hydra commissioner would dare to touch that house.
He further alleged that another minister Vivek had built a house near Himayat Sagar lake, but Hydra did not take any action there too.
The former minister also claimed that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s brother, Tirupati Reddy, had built a house within Dugram Cheruvu FTL. “The poor are not given time so that they cannot approach the court to protect their homes, but Tirupati Reddy was allowed to go to the court and get a stay,” he said.
Alleging that MLC Patnam Mahendra Reddy had constructed a house in the middle of a lake, KTR said Hydra did not even have the courage to issue a notice in that case.
