Hyderabad, Nov 2 (IANS) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy immediately apologize for his ‘shameful’ and ‘derogatory’ remarks on the Indian Army.
The controversy started when Revanth Reddy said during the Jubilee Hills by-election campaign that “when Pakistan kicked us, we failed to counter”.
His remarks sparked outrage for undermining the courage and integrity of India’s armed forces.
BRS leader KT Rama Rao (KTR) reacted sharply, saying such irresponsible and derogatory comments were unbecoming of a person holding the post of Chief Minister. “Insulting the Indian Army just to score political points in an election rally is a new low even by Revanth Reddy’s standards,” KTR said. He demanded that the Chief Minister withdraw his statement and tender an unconditional public apology to the Indian Army.
The BRS leader said joining the armed forces and putting one’s life at stake for the nation requires extreme hard work, dedication, commitment and love for the country. “We can live safely, do politics and spend time with our families because our soldiers are guarding the borders, enduring the most brutal and difficult conditions,” he said.
Questioning the intention behind Revanth Reddy’s words, KTR asked, “What did you do to belittle our army and glorify Pakistan? What were you trying to achieve by insulting our brave soldiers?”
He said, “For a man who was once caught with a bag of cash, it is perhaps natural to worship goons and rowdy people. But as the Chief Minister of Telangana, it is your duty to show dignity and patriotism. Stop insulting the Indian Army and stop praising the enemy country.”
KTR said Revanth Reddy’s comments have deeply hurt the sentiments of crores of Indians who hold the army in the highest regard. The BRS leader asserted, “As a representative of Telangana, you should behave responsibly and respect the soldiers guarding our borders – not disrespect them for your political theatrics.”
BJP has already condemned the Chief Minister’s comments and demanded an apology from him.
