KTR claims Congress is ‘neglecting’ public health in Telangana

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday accused the Congress government in Telangana of neglecting public health.

He along with former health minister Tatikonda Rajaiah, local corporators and BRS leaders inspected Basti Dawakhana at Ibrahim Nagar in Khairatabad constituency here on Monday.

KTR interacted with patients and inquired about the problems faced at the health facility.

He reminded that under the leadership of former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), the previous BRS government had established 450 Basti Dawakhanas across Telangana to make healthcare accessible and affordable for the poor.

Also, Telangana Diagnostic Centers were established to provide free medical tests to the public, and one medical college per district was sanctioned, each attached to a full-fledged government hospital.

BRS expressed concern that the Congress government has neglected public health since coming to power, leading to the condition of many slum dispensaries. “Employees of many Basti dispensaries have not been paid salaries for four months. These centers are supposed to have 108 types of essential medicines, but the government has failed to ensure adequate supply,” KTR said.

He also pointed out that Telangana diagnostics services have collapsed under the Congress rule.

He commented, “Under KCR’s leadership, we started four TIMS (Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences) hospitals, each with 1,000 beds for the urban poor, and started the NIMS expansion project with 2,000 beds. Our government completed 90 per cent of the work, but this government has not even completed the remaining 10 per cent.”

Criticizing the government over cleanliness in Hyderabad, KTR said, “Even basic cleanliness has been neglected in the city. Garbage collection has stopped in many areas, the menace of mosquitoes has increased and people are suffering from viral fever. The Congress government should wake up from its deep slumber and immediately focus on public health and cleanliness.”

He demanded that if the state government really cares about the people then it will set up 450 more Basti dispensaries and complete the pending TIMS hospitals at the earliest. “Otherwise, we will soon organize protests in front of TIMS hospitals,” he warned.

KTR announced that a detailed report on the deteriorating health conditions in Telangana will soon be submitted to the state government under the supervision of former health minister Rajaiah. He also urged the government to release the pending salaries of Anganwadi workers and immediately implement the promised salary hike.

KTR attacked Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagendra and the Congress leadership for political hypocrisy. KTR said, “Danam Nagendra was elected as MLA on BRS ticket, yet his name is in the list of star campaigners of Congress for Jubilee Hills bypoll. Everyone knows from which party he won and where he left the party.”

He accused the Congress of not having any moral or ethical clarity regarding the defection of MLAs.

He commented, “The Congress party itself is confused – their MLAs cannot even say clearly which party they belong to.”

Taking a dig at the national leadership, KTR said, “This is no longer AICC – All India Congress Committee, it is ‘All India Corruption Committee’. The corrupt Congress party is led by Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.”

“While the Congress shamelessly claims that no BRS MLA has joined them, the AICC has included the name of our MLA in its star campaigner list. This shows the double standards and moral bankruptcy of the Congress leadership,” he said.
