Bengaluru, 19 September (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision, which dismissed the petition to challenge the Congress -led government to challenge the move, in which Booker Prize winner Banu Masht inaugurated the historic Masti Mudkhara festival.
Taking to the social media platform X, CM Siddaramaiah said, “I welcome the Supreme Court’s decision to reject the petition filed against the state government to invite Booker prize winner Banu Mushtaq to inaugurate Mysuru Dashera.”
“Mysuru Dusshera cannot be limited to purely religious structures. From the very beginning, we have said that it is a festival where people of all castes and religions come to celebrate together. Nevertheless, the systematic false propaganda spread to divide the society. Now, with the decisions of the Supreme Court, I believe that our government is a stand,” CM SIDDARAMAIAH said. “
“I hope that Goddess Chamundeshwari considers the divisive minds who want to sow the seeds of caste and religious hatred,” she underlined.
The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition on the decision of the Congress -led Karnataka government, in which Booker Award winner Banu Mushtaq inaugurated the historic and world famous Dussehra festival in Massuru city.
A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta remained unaffected by the fact that a non-Hindu person could not be allowed to worship, especially when invited, Banu Mushtaq hurt some objectionable comments in the past to hurt religious sentiments.
Earlier on Thursday, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai agreed to list the Special Holiday Petition (SLP) on 19 September, when it was mentioned for immediate hearing.
The SLP before the Apex Court challenged the sacking of public interest cases (PIL) by the Karnataka High Court, in which Banu Mushtaq was questioned the Congress -led state government’s decision to inaugurate Dussehra.
During the inauguration of Dussehra, there is a tradition of paying floral tribute to Goddess Chamundeshwari, and opposition for Banu Mushtaq, who inaugurated the festival.
The Congress -led state government asked the decision to invite Banu Mushtaq for the inauguration of Dussehra “wrong”, the petitioners claimed that they had issued anti -Hindu statements and commented against the Kannada language.
