k-pop demon hunter Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans firmly rejected suggestions of a live-action adaptation hit movieArguing that many elements were uniquely “suited for animation”.

In a new interview, the directors explained why a live-action adaptation wouldn’t work.
“There are a lot of elements of tone and comedy that are very suitable for animation. “It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world,” Kang told the BBC. “It would feel much more grounded. So this totally won’t work for me.”
Appelhans agreed, pointing out that the characters’ movements could only be captured in an animated film.
The filmmaker said, “One of the best things about animation is that you create these combinations of impossibly great characteristics. Rumi can be a goofy comedian and then sing and do a spinning back-kick a second later and then fly into the sky.”
“The joy of animation is how far you can push it and elevate what’s possible. I remember seeing a lot of different anime they adapted and at times, it just felt a little stilted.”
